Two men are in critical condition after their semi truck rolled down an embankment early Thursday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol officials said the accident happened at 5:50 a.m. on State Road 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon near mile marker 186.

The two men were in a semi truck carrying an extra trailer. Somehow, the truck went off the road and rolled down a 40- to 50-foot embankment before resting in a gully.

The men were taken by medical helicopter to a local hospital. UHP officials were unsure Thursday morning of what exactly caused the truck to veer off the road.

One westbound lane of SR 6 was closed Thursday morning as crews work to clean up the accident. Because the truck was carrying chemicals, hazmat crews were on scene Thursday morning, but UHP officials said the chemicals were not hazardous and the crews were called out as a precaution.
