Utah girl hit by school bus dies from her injuries

The 10-year-old girl who was hit by a school bus in South Jordan died Friday after being on life support. She was surrounded by her family.

Seleny Crosby was on a southbound bus that had pulled over onto the shoulder of 4000 West near 10600 South on Wednesday at about 4:15 p.m. to drop off students, according to South Jordan police spokesman Sam Winkler.

The Welby Elementary student got off the bus and began crossing 4000 West to the east. Another Jordan School District bus was traveling south on 4000 West; the driver did not see the girl and the bus struck her, Winkler said.

Winkler said Friday that the driver of Seleny's school bus did activate the four-way hazard flashers on the bus as the students were unloading, but did not activate the yellow or red school bus loading lights or stop signs.

Police do not believe speed was a factor in the accident, and do not believe that the driver operating the bus who hit the girl was distracted before the accident.

The case remains an active investigation, police said Friday, and they expect to bring the case to prosecutors to screen for potential charges.
