MLS roundup: Rapids make early lead stand up vs. L.A. Galaxy

Commerce City, Colo. • Vincente Sanchez scored in the 20th minute, leading the Colorado Rapids to a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday night.

Sanchez, who sat out the second half with a sore left knee, curled a shot between two defenders to record his team-leading fifth goal. The goal gave Colorado (4-2-2) its first lead before the 60th minute this season.

Clint Irwin posted his third shutout.

Robbie Keane missed wide of the right post on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute for Los Angeles (2-2-2), which had its four-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Landon Donovan failed to become the career MLS scoring leader, remaining tied with Jeff Cunningham with 134 goals. He's scoreless in all six league games he's played this season.

Revolution 2, FC Toronto 1 • In Toronto, defender Doneil Henry made two mistakes that led to New England goals in the Revolution's victory over FC Toronto.

Henry, who missed three games with a knee injury, was charged with a hand ball in the penalty area in the 82nd minute. Lee Nguyen picked up his fourth goal of the season on the penalty kick for the winner.

Henry's turnover in the 24th minute led to the first goal for the Revolution (4-3-2). Daigo Kobayashi capitalized and sent a through ball for rookie Patrick Mullins, whose left-footed strike beat diving goalkeeper Julio Cesar to tie the game 1-1. It was Mullins' first career goal.

Toronto (3-4-0), which has lost three straight, got a goal from A.J. Soares in the sixth minute.

Whitecaps 3, Earthquakes 2 • In Vancouver, British Columbia, Pedro Morales scored two goals a minute apart in the first half and the Vancouver Whitecaps edged the San Jose Earthquakes.

Morales scored on a penalty kick in the 19th minute and kicked a shot in from about 20 yards out in the 20th minute. Kekuta Manneh also scored a goal and added an assist for Vancouver (3-2-4), which earned its first win in five games.

Chris Wondolowski scored both goals for San Jose (1-3-3) — in the 45th minute and in second-half stoppage time. The Whitecaps had a goal disallowed in the 81st minute when Gershon Koffie was called for getting his hand on the ball just before he scored.

Sounders 2, Union 1 • In Seattle, Chad Marshall headed in a corner kick from Marco Pappa in the 84th minute as Seattle completed a comeback from a first-half own goal to beat Philadelphia.

The Sounders (6-2-1) won their MLS-leading fourth straight game, extended their unbeaten streak to five and took the overall league lead with 19 points.

Philadelphia (1-4-5) saw its winless streak extended to eight games (0-4-4), tying a club record that was first set in 2011 and matched in 2012. —
