Letter: All this growth for the sake of greed

Reading the letter "Endless population growth is like cancer," by Thomas Fritz in the May 3 Opinion section rang several bells regarding the obsession of some leaders of our growing state promoting growth. Greed is the root cause of the need for growth. Greed for more business, more church membership, more representation in the federal government.

Over-population is manifested by excessive population density. This trend is easily noticeable in

the Sugar House area, with the building of several monstrous apartment buildings, and driving south on I-15, the newer area of huge houses cramped in the space west of the highway in Lehi. Yes, it's cheaper to cram people into a smaller area, but it reduces the quality of life for everyone. Is this what we want? If not then we need to put a stop to it.

The proposed state takeover of federal lands is another attempt at growing the state at the expense of quality of life. These lands are irreplaceable. They need to be saved for future generations. Yet, if the state has its way, what will be the fate of these treasures? All for the sake of greed.

Let's be sensible and remember that sometimes more is less.
