A Kearns man is accused of beating his wife to unconsciousness with a piece of wood.

In charges filed Monday, police wrote that the man, 22, became angry with his wife March 30 and began punching her in the face and throwing her against the wall. He then picked up a 2-inch by 2-inch board and began beating the woman in the face, police wrote.

The woman tried to call police, but the man took her phone away, police wrote. The woman lost consciousness during the attack and required emergency medical treatment.

Charges do not indicate how police became aware of the alleged assault.

The man was charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and misdemeanor interruption of a communication device.
