Utah letter carriers on Saturday will hold their 22nd annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

The Postal Services encourages Utahns to participate by placing nonperishable food in bags and leaving them by their mailboxes before mail delivery. All food letter carriers collect will go to Utah food banks and pantries, a news release said.

Food items needed by banks and pantries include peanut butter, canned soup, canned meats, canned vegetables, fruits and juices, boxed goods (such as cereal), pasta and rice.

The Postal Service asks Utahns not to donate expired items or food in glass containers.

Since its inception, the food drive has collected more than 1 billion pounds of food, the Postal Service said.

Americans donated 74 million pounds of food, including 655,000 pounds of food in the Beehive state, the agency said.
