Some of the top club volleyball teams with future Division I college stars will invade the Salt Palace Convention Center Friday through Sunday as it hosts the Triple Crown National Volleyball Championships.

Over 40 clubs will compete in the event, hailing from Utah, Colorado, California, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Nevada, Kentucky, New York, Oregon and Texas.

"We are really excited about this year's event," said Triple Crown volleyball director Sean Hardy.  "The 17s and 18s Open divisions feature eight clubs ranked in the top 10 with many of the girls already committed to play Division I volleyball next year.  We invite all volleyball fans in Salt Lake City to come watch some of the top high school players in the country and future D-I stars compete for a national championship."

Utah will account for over a quarter of the teams in the field, which includes four age divisions. Leading the Utah contingent are the powerhouse Aces Volleyball (Lehi) and Club V (Woods Cross). Both programs have players that are committed to the University of Utah, BYU and Westminster.

Triple Crown Sports has been running youth, high school, and college tournaments for over 30 years. This is the first year the organization has run a volleyball tournament, but it has already caught the attention of some of the best volleyball clubs in the country.

The tournament gets underway at 9:30 a.m. Friday, runs all day Saturday, and concludes on Sunday with the Elite 17 and Elite 18 Open championship matches, both of which will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

The event will be webcast live at WatchTCS.com. Those wanting to attend the event can purchase event wristbands at the gate — a single day is $8 while a three-day pass is $15. Kids under 16 can attend for free. —
