Orem police confirmed Friday that they are investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl who apparently strangled last month when she became entangled in the cord of some window blinds.

Orem police Lt. Craig Martinez, citing both the ongoing nature of the investigation and the requests of the victim's family for privacy, declined to identify the child at this time.

The girl was found unconscious and not breathing about 5 p.m. on April 30 inside her bedroom at a residence in the 1800 South block of Columbia Lane.

Martinez said officers responding to a 911 call arrived to find that neighbors had performed CPR and then rushed the girl to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

"When our detectives were called to the scene, they were able to determine that the little girl was likely strangled by cord on the window coverings in her bedroom," Martinez said.

He said that while detectives continued to look into the incident, there were no indications that the girl's death was anything but accidental.
