Women's basketball: BYU lands Mountain Crest's 6-4 MaCayla Hanks

Fresh off an appearance in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16, BYU coach Jeff Judkins' women's basketball program is already starting to build for the future. The program has received a commitment from MaCayla Hanks, a 6-foot-4 post player from Mountain Crest High in Hyrum, Utah. Hanks is just finishing up her junior year and said Friday she will sign with BYU in November. She also had an offer from Southern Utah University. She also plays for the Salt Lake Metro club basketball program and coach Dave Hammer. Hanks was an honorable mention all-state selection last season and an all-Region 5 first-team pick. Her brother, Cal Hanks, is a 6-foot-11 forward/center at SUU. "I really like the girls in the program and all the coaches at BYU," she said. "It just felt right." Hanks plays center for the Mustangs but will probably play the four and five spots for BYU. She said she committed early so she could have fun her senior year and concentrate on basketball and spending time with her family.
