BYU football: Missouri QB will transfer to BYU after stop at a junior college

BYU's football program is getting another transfer from a "Big 5" conference school — after a stopover at a junior college in Oklahoma.

Trent Hosick, a quarterback who spent a redshirt freshman season at Missouri, announced via Twitter late Monday night that he will transfer to BYU.

Hosick, 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds, visited BYU last weekend and was offered a scholarship by coach Bronco Mendenhall on Sunday night.

Hosick's plan is to enroll at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College this fall and play for the Golden Norsemen for one year. Northeastern Oklahoma is a two-year junior college in Miami, Okla.

He will enroll at BYU in January and have three seasons to play three for the Cougars.

BYU's starting quarterback the next two seasons (2014 and 2015) is expected to be Taysom Hill.

Hosick and highly touted Boise, Idaho-area recruit Tanner Mangum, currently on an LDS Church mission in Chile, will theoretically battle to be Hill's backup in 2015 — if Hill stays for his senior season, as expected.

Hosick lost a battle in spring camp to be Missouri's starting quarterback this fall, and was said to be listed at No. 3 on the Tigers' depth chart out of spring ball.

Earlier this spring, Stanford receiver Keanu Nelson and Nebraska defensive back Harvey Jackson announced they will be transferring to BYU. Both are immediately eligible because they have earned their college degrees.
