Letter: A Cougar fan has ideas for Utah's song

I have followed with passing interest the lengthy and convoluted debate concerning the University of Utah fight song. This, to me, is silly, considering all the real important issues facing education and the world.

Having said that, my reaction is that if the students and administration seriously want to tinker with tradition, let them substitute "fan" for "man."

As to the phrase, "our coeds are the fairest," it connotes that they are the most lovely. This may or may not be but, in reality, this has nothing to do with skin color. But again, if they feel the need to change the meaning, substitute "brightest" for "fairest." Again, that may or may not be.

I have two degrees from the U. and one from the Y. And, although I consider myself a Cougar fan first, last and always, I can comment with pure objectivity and without bias.
