Salt Lake City police say what started as a grab-and-run beer theft from a convenience store escalated to something far more serious when one of three teenage suspects brandished a handgun at employees.

The holdup occurred just before midnight Tuesday in the 7-Eleven store at 1353 W. Indiana Avenue. The three males, described as white or Latino, walked inside and brazenly snatched two 30-pack cartons of beer and then ran from the store.

Store employees chased the trio outside, only to halt their pursuit when one of the produced the pistol. The three then ran off into the darkness.

Police, assisted by dogs, searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
