Letter: Secessionists in Utah?

The right-wing fanatics who would have the federal government hand over all public lands in Utah, Nevada, etc., remind me of the pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine. When would they like to hold the referendum on secession from the United States?

They should also think about telling Washington to get Hill Air Force Base and Dugway Proving Ground out of Utah. Have you ever seen the vistas from Hill AFB? That is prime real estate that Washington is preventing Utah from opening to development.

We do not need Washington's FAA personnel at Salt Lake International Airport, the Federal Reserve Bank in Salt Lake City, U.S. Immigration services, etc.

How long do these people think Utah would last without the federal government providing money for education, transportation, defense, health services for the poor, etc.? Utah gets more back from Washington than we pay in taxes. They all should keep that in mind before they destroy the natural wonders we have here and tell Washington to get out.

By the way, I am a Republican and always have been. I, like Abraham Lincoln, believe the U.S. is better served by a strong central government.
