Salt Lake Community College official Karen Gunn will receive the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's "Businesswoman of the Year" award in recognition of her 30-year career as an entrepreneur and educator.
The award, which will be presented Friday during the chamber's state convention at the Sheraton Hotel in Salt Lake City, recognizes "women who provide invaluable leadership, demonstrate excellence in business, community involvement and inspire others to reach their professional potential for the purpose of invigorating and enhancing the local quality of life."
Gunn is currently the community college's associate provost for the division of economic development and business partnerships. In that role, she oversees programs in workforce development, global entrepreneurship and small-business development.
She also helped the community college develop business and academic partnerships in China, India, Brazil and Ukraine.
At Friday's conference, Gunn will moderate a panel for women who own small businesses, addressing issues such as balancing a personal life and a career.
