Murdered woman faced a dozen criminal charges

A homeless Cedar City mother had a lot of troubles before someone killed her.

Cammi Denee Miller, 33, was found Saturday near Tipple Road, near an old motocross track two miles south of Cedar City. She was due in court for a trial two days before her body was found — just one of her four pending criminal cases.

The bench trial, scheduled for May 8, was concerning intoxication and disorderly conduct charges. In the past two years, she has also been charged with aggravated assault, possession or use of a controlled substance, spitting on an officer and driving under the influence, among other crimes.

She had pleaded not guilty to most of the counts, but none of those cases were resolved before she died.

Miller, who was also known by the last names Jones, vanished more than a month before Iron County Sheriff's deputies found her body, according to court records. Her disappearance was noted on April 22, when she was scheduled to show up for a competency review hearing. Due to her absence, the court had issued a warrant for her arrest.

The review hearing came up with regards to her aggravated assault case. Miller was accused of stabbing her boyfriend in the neck with a knife last October, according to an arrest affidavit.

Miller was also a mother, though the Division of Child and Family Services had custody of her child at least as of an April 8 court hearing.

"Once in a while she checks in with them," according to that court record.
