A single-vehicle accident on a Davis County frontage road adjacent to the Legacy Highway late Monday morning left a man fighting for his life.

Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. Brandon Roundy said a deputy on patrol noticed a heavily damaged car off the road near 500 South and Legacy Highway at 8:33 a.m. Upon further investigation, the deputy discovered the driver, unconscious, still inside the vehicle, which had crashed into a fence on the southbound shoulder of the road.

Roundy said it was uncertain how long the man had been there, though witnesses reported seeing the crashed car as much as an hour before its discovery.

Speed was suspected to be a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation.

The 24-year-old victim was flown by medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, where he was listed in critical condition.
