The driver of an ATV has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after he struck and killed a motorcyclist near southwestern Washington's Snow Canyon State Park over the weekend.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jacob Hicks said the ATV was following the dirt bike southbound on Spanish Trail Drive, near the town of Veyo, about 5 p.m. Sunday when the crash occurred.

Troopers say the bike had stopped near Interstate 15 northbound when the ATV struck the rear tire of the motorcycle, causing the ATV to roll and the bike to catapult.

The motorcyclist, despite wearing a helmet, was killed on impact. He was identified on Monday as Austin Mcelyea, 17, of Santa Clara.

The 27-year-old ATV driver, of Brookside, Utah, escaped with minor injuries.

Hicks said the ATV driver was booked into Washington County Jail pending results from blood toxicology tests. He was being held Monday in lieu of $5,000 bail.
