New search for Susan Powell at father-in-law's old home

The family of Susan Cox Powell intend to search her father-in-law's former home for her body or other clues.

Anne Bremner, an attorney for Susan Powell's parents, said the search has not yet been scheduled, but it will include cadaver dogs that will search the yards.

Police have served at least three search warrants on the home over the years. But Bremner said those searches sought Susan Powell's journals and evidence of voyeurism committed by her father-in-law, Steve Powell.

Police "didn't have probable cause to search for whether she was there," Bremner said. "We don't have any restrictions."

The modest, two-story home is in a subdivision in Puyallup, Wash. Steve Powell lived there until September 2011 when police arrested him on suspicion of voyeurism. He was eventually convicted of 14 counts related to photographing young neighbor girls in various states of undress.

Steve Powell was released from prison earlier this year. Bremner also represents Steve Powell's victims, who obtained a $2 million judgment against him.

Last month, those victims used $100,000 credit from the judgment to obtain Steve Powell's home at an auction.

During Steve Powell's voyeurism trial, the mother of the girls became friends with Susan Powell's parents, Chuck and Judy Cox.

"Something the mom had promised Chuck was if she ever got the house through civil proceedings, Chuck could search it," Bremner said.

Susan Powell was last seen Dec. 6, 2009, at her home in West Valley City, Utah.
