An elderly man was in critical condition after he ran a red light and collided with a pickup truck Tuesday morning in downtown Salt Lake City.

Police Detective Greg Wilking said the 82-year-old man was traveling southbound on State Street near 500 South when the crash occurred at 9:47 a.m. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The man sustained serious injuries, but due to his advanced years was listed in critical condition when transported to the hospital, Wilking said.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

The accident remained under investigation.
