A pair of finches decided that the floral wreath on my daughter's front door would be the perfect spot to build their nest. We had a close up view through the window at the top of the door as they carefully constructed a perfect little nest. The mama bird laid four tiny eggs and cared for them until they hatched. The parents diligently flew back and forth feeding them. My two-year-old grandson was fascinated as the babies grew and started to develop feathers. He prayed for their protection every night.
Then one night my son-in-law came home to find a neighbor's cat sitting on the porch. He chased him away but later that night they heard a thump and went out to find the cat back on the porch, the wreath on the ground, the little nest destroyed and the birds gone. All of that hard work and dedication destroyed in an instant because of an irresponsible pet owner. Our hearts are broken. We had hoped to see them fly away some day. My little grandson doesn't understand.
If you are a cat owner please show respect for your neighbors' property by keeping them inside.
