Salt Lake County is forming a working group to come up with recommendations on making Emigration Canyon safer for motorists, cyclists and residents.

Applications are due Wednesday for the Emigration Canyon Roadway Safety Working Group, which is scheduled to deliver its suggestions to the County Council in October.

"Community involvement is at the core of what we do as we plan for the future we choose in Emigration Canyon," said county Township Executive Patrick Leary, expecting recommendations to address potential infrastructure improvements, additional signage and the development of policies governing the interactions of different user groups.

The working group's formation follows the council's February adoption of a resolution to study safety issues in the heavily traveled canyon.
