Grants to enhance telecommunications and broadcast services in rural areas are available for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said $35 million will be distributed from three funding sources: the Community Connect, Distance Learning and Telemedicine and Public Television Digital Transition grant programs.

"It will help open doors to the global marketplace," Vilsack said. "It will deliver specialized medical care and educational services. It will ensure that public television stations can fully convert to digital signals and transmit public safety, health, educational and cultural programming in isolated areas."

Additional details are available in the May 22 edition of the Federal Register.
