Already awaiting a court date on a felony drug count, a 22-year-old Provo woman ended up in jail for the third time this month after trying to elude police on her bicycle and fighting arrest by tooth and clutch.
The woman, who was facing a June 10 hearing on the possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia counts, was caught riding the lightless bike at 3 a.m. Thursday in downtown Provo. When a police officer flipped on his cruiser's lights, the suspect pedaled away, refusing repeated demands to stop.
She jumped off her bike and fled to a room at the Executive Inn, 250 S. University Avenue. Police said she had been "trespassed" from the motel two days before.
Provo police made repeated demands for the woman to surrender, but she refused to unlock the room's door. Police got the office manager to open the room and found the suspect in the back of the unit, threatening them with a pen.
At one point, police said, the woman dropped a glass pipe and then kicked the broken pieces at officers. When police tried to arrest her she allegedly tried to bite one officer and grasped another's officer's groin before being subdued and handcuffed.
She remained in the Utah County jail on Friday, held without bail on suspicion of assaulting police officers, fleeing police, tampering with evidence, criminal trespassing, possession of drug paraphernalia and riding a bicycle at night without a light.
Booking records show the woman had been booked into jail 11 times since October 2013 including her arrests on Thursday, May 9 and May 1 on earlier counts ranging from drug possession, assault and shoplifting to trespassing.
