State colleges: Utah baseball falls to Stanford in doubleheader

The Utes fell at home to the Cardinal in both of their games Sunday, dropping the first contest 9-7 and the second one 3-2.

Utah lost early leads in both games, with Stanford piling on four runs in Game 1's seventh inning, and three runs in the fourth inning of Game 2. TJ Bennett led the Utes with four RBIs in Game 1. Zach Adams pitched six innings in Game 1, allowing four runs. Dalton Carroll allowed three runs in seven innings in the second game.

The losses gave Utah a season record of 16-36 and 4-26 in the Pac-12.

Sacramento State 10, Utah Valley 3 • Rhys Hoskins went 3 for 5 with two home runs, leading Sacramento State to a 10-3 win over Utah Valley in the championship game of the Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament.

The Hornets jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before icing their first-ever WAC title with three more in the eighth.

Third-seeded Utah Valley finished its season with a record of 28-30.
