College baseball: Sacramento State beats Utah Valley for WAC title

Mesa, Ariz. • Rhys Hoskins went 3 for 5 with two home runs Sunday, leading Sacramento State to a 10-3 win over Utah Valley in the championship game of the Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament.

The Hornets jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before icing their first-ever WAC title with three more in the eighth.

Top-seeded Sacramento State improved to 39-22. Third-seeded Utah Valley finished its season with a record of 28-30.

The win was the Hornets' second straight over the Wolverines in the double-elimination tournament.

Sacramento State had forced a one-game showdown for the championship with another 10-3 victory on Saturday night.

Utah Valley defeated New Mexico State (11-10), Texas-Pan American (9-2) and Cal-Bakersfield (5-2) before the two losses to Sacramento State.
