Sanpete County deputies are investigating a report that someone was nearly kidnapped at gunpoint.

About 10:50 a.m. Monday morning, deputies responded to call in Mayfield about a man with a gun. When deputies arrived, they found the person who called, a woman who told them that while she walking near the roadway, a car abruptly stopped next to her.

"The driver got out of the car, pulled a gun [from his right hip] and then she was able to run away," according to a Sanpete County Sheriff's Office news release, distributed late Tuesday night.

The car was described as a newer white, possibly four-door passenger car. The driver is described as a 6-foot-tall male, possibly white, with broad shoulders, according to the release.

The case is under investigation.
