A Salt Lake City couple is unlikely forget their extended Memorial Day weekend anytime soon: they returned from the holiday break to find a stranger rummaging through their home.

The homeowners called 911 after they found the suspect, a 26-year-old man, inside their house near 200 North and 800 West about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspect fled, but responding officers soon found him hiding in the bushes in front of the residence.

He was arrested without further incident and booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of burglary.

Court records show the suspect has a past record of arrests for drug and shoplifting offenses.
