Letter: DABC head 'terminally literal'

Sal Petilos needs to be fired from his job as director of Utah's Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Really, even in Utah, this has gone beyond the ridiculous. Mr. Petilos is rattling chains, sending an early warning that he is about to deny the Snowbird Oktoberfest the temporary permit necessary to serve beer at this 40 year old event.

After all this time, he's reinterpreting what fits the "community event" section of the statute. Again, he has taken it upon himself to define intent of the law. This is the same guy who pressed so hard to deny a pre-dinner cocktail in a restaurant until dinner was actually served. He is terminally literal.

Please get him replaced with someone who will facilitate the already restrictive laws, not use "interpretation" as a weapon against legal consumption. Hey Sal, just do your job. Don't make your own laws.
