Utah forecast: A warm, breezy weekend ahead

Fire, flooding danger • Alerts for southwestern fire risk, southeastern snowmelt.

A hot, dry weekend is on tap for Utah, along with elevated wildfire risk in the southwestern corner of the state and increased flooding fears for the southeast.

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for the St. George area through 9 p.m. Saturday as the region's humidity dipped to a relatively bone dry 6 percent.

On the other end of the state, A Flood Advisory was in place for Grand County and Moab as warm temperatures accelerated snowmelt, swelling the area's rivers and streams.

After Friday's forecast for isolated mountain thunderstorms and high temperatures in the mid-80s, the Wasatch Front looked for daytime highs a few degrees hotter Saturday under partly cloudy, breezy skies.

Southern Utah was just plain hot. The mercury was forecast to climb into the upper-90s both Friday and Saturday with sunny, clear skies and winds in the 15-25 mph range.

The Utah Division of Air Quality graded the entire state at "green," or healthy for breathing conditions through the weekend.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website's pollen index was "very high" for grass and maple, "high" for mold and "moderate" for oak and plantain.
