Utah forecast: Warm along Wasatch Front, hot, dry in south

Northern Utahns looked for warm and pleasant weather as the work week got under way, but in the state's southern reaches it will be just plain hot — and dangerously dry.

While the Wasatch Front expected high temperatures Tuesday in the low-80s, a few degrees cooler than Monday's forecast, the mercury will climb into the mid- to upper-90s in parched and windy Utah's Dixie.

Humidity will dip to a bone-dry 5 percent or less in southwestern Utah. Combined with winds of 30-40 mph, that brought a "Red Flag" wildfire danger warning through 10 p.m. Monday — conditions likely to persist into the midweek period.

The Utah Division of Air Quality predicted "yellow," or compromised breathing conditions statewide the next couple days.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website's pollen index was "very high" for grass, "high" for mold and "moderate" for maple and plantain.
