An early Wednesday morning auto-pedestrian accident left a man dead on Highway 201 in Magna.

Public safety dispatchers confirmed that a 911 call reporting the fatality came in at 1:49 a.m. from the area of a construction zone along 8400 West.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said 46-year-old Burt J. Maez was walking along the highway where construction work had narrowed the westbound lanes to one when he was struck by an SUV.

The driver told troopers he did not see Maez along the darkened street in time to avoid hitting him.

No citations were issued, though the accident remained under investigation.

Court records indicate that Maez was a Magna resident.
