Construction projects to cause highway delays

Construction projects could bring new, significant delays along several Utah highways in coming days.

The Utah Department of Transportation says that includes reducing Interstate 80 to one lane at times in Salt Lake City, near Wanship and near Tooele, and also reducing US-91 near the Idaho border to one lane.

• I-80 in eastern Salt Lake City: Lane restrictions are scheduled Friday and Saturday nights for bridge paving on I-80 near 2000 East.

On Friday night, westbound I-80 is scheduled to be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. On Saturday, eastbound traffic there will be reduced to a single lane from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

• I-80 near Wanship: Westbound I-80 is scheduled to be reduced to one lane beginning Monday and lasting through November as crews begin work to reconstruct a seven-mile section of the freeway between Wanship and the US-40 interchange.

Beginning in early July, eastbound traffic also will be reduced to one lane through that project area through November.

• I-80 near Tooele: It has been reduced to one lane in each direction in a five-mile section near the SR-36 interchange at Exit 99 for concrete maintenance. The restrictions are scheduled to remain in place through early July.

• US-91 near Smithfield: It is scheduled to be reduced to one lane in each direction between Smithfield and the Idaho border on weekdays, and occasional Saturdays, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the end of July for road resurfacing.

• US-89 near South Weber: Crews will begin construction Monday to add a new auxiliary lane between SR-193 and South Weber Drive. It is expected to have minor impact on traffic, although right lane shoulders will be closed for the 90-day project.
