The Utah Highway Patrol on Friday confirmed that a Texas sheriff's deputy was the victim of a multi-motorcycle/vehicle crash in eastern Utah's Uintah County.

UHP spokesman Mark Thompson said that 55-year-old David G. Glenn was part of a three-rider group that was eastbound on Highway 40, just east of Naples, when the accident occurred about 6:15 p.m. Thursday.

A vehicle in front of the trio and other traffic slowed to make a left turn, causing a pickup truck to slow to a stop. Glenn's 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle first hit the pickup truck and then bounced into the oncoming, westbound lane, where it was hit by an SUV.

Glenn, a veteran deputy with the Midland County Sheriff's Office, was dead at the scene of the crash. His two motorcycling companions escaped serious injury, though one also hit the pickup truck and the other was forced to lay down his bike on the asphalt.

The accident remained under investigation.
