Seattle • Seattle Pacific University has confirmed the identity of the student who stopped a gunman on campus, possibly saving lives.
Jon Meis (MEES') was acting as a student building monitor Thursday when the gunman entered the foyer at Otto Miller Hall and started shooting. A 19-year-old man was killed and two other young people were wounded.
Police say that as the gunman paused to reload, the 22-year-old Meis pepper-sprayed him and subdued him with the help of others.
One of Meis' roommates, Ryan Salgado, told The Seattle Times he seemed to be in shock afterward. A spokeswoman at Seattle's Harborview Medical Center said Friday Meis wasn't injured, but was suffering from mental anguish and was treated and released on Thursday.
