A 50-year-old motorcyclist died Friday afternoon after a mini-van allegedly ran a red light in Salt Lake City.

About 1:40 p.m., the man was riding his motorcycle south on 900 West when an eastbound mini-van, on 1700 South, allegedly hit him at the intersection, said Salt Lake City police Detective Veronica Montoya. Investigators suspect that the van ran the red light, Montoya said.

The motorcyclist died, but police are trying to reach his family before releasing his name.

The crash remains under investigation.
