Utewrap: The week in Utah sports, June 2-8

All eyes will be on an Oakland courthouse Monday, where the future of college sports may hang in the balance.

In case you haven't delved into the legal tedium of O'Bannon v. NCAA, we gave you a primer on what to know and what might happen as athletes vie for the right to share in the wealth.

We also talked to Dres Anderson, Brian Johnson and the U.'s licensing department about their reactions to a $40 million proposed settlement from Electronic Arts.

Baseball • Three Utes and two signees were selected in the 2014 MLB Draft. Junior HP Mitch Watrous (eighth round, Padres) and senior LHP Nick Green (10th round, Royals) both went from walk-ons to pros at the U., and senior LHP Tanner Banks was selected on Day Three (18th round, White Sox). The Utes also saw two signees drafted in Spencer Moran (11th round, Rays) and Andre Jackson (32nd round, Rangers). Moran and Jackson have until July 18 to decide whether they'll play in the big leagues before college.

Football • The Tribune caught up with two Utes who left for what they hope to be greener pastures, but who nonetheless say they're grateful for their treatment in Salt Lake City. Lucky Radley told The Tribune that San Diego State's rushing-oriented offense was a better fit for his NFL bid, and former Utah offensive coordinator and Sugar Bowl legend Brian Johnson said he couldn't resist the chance to pair again with mentor Dan Mullen at Mississippi State.

Women's track and field • Bountiful senior Rosalie Waller is the lone athlete who will represent the Utes this week at the NCAA Championships. Waller, who will run the 800 meters, was profiled last month by The Tribune's Kyle Goon.
