A dispute between a Taylorsville woman and her ex-boyfriend ended with him in jail, and her current love interest in the hospital with multiple stab wounds.
Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen said the Monday night altercation took place at the woman's home near 5300 South and State Street. The 36-year-old suspect allegedly came to the residence to demand money from the woman.
As the disagreement escalated, her new boyfriend attempted to intervene. A struggle ensued during which the would-be protector was stabbed in both arms. He remained in serious condition Tuesday.
A probable cause statement says the suspect, after being contacted by telephone and asked to come in for questioning, instead went to the same hospital his alleged victim was taken to, claiming to have a head injury to support a claim of self-defense.
That did not stop UPD officers from arresting him after he received treatment.
The suspect was being held in the Salt Lake County jail without bail on Tuesday on suspicion of third-degree felony aggravated assault.
