A man and woman claiming to be police officers stole the wallet, cellphone and car of a man outside west Salt Lake City's Rancho Market.

Salt Lake City police Detective Cody Lougy said the two approached the victim outside the store at 140 N. 900 West just after 11 p.m. Monday.

The male suspect was described as white, 35-40 years old, wearing glasses, black clothing and a large backpack. The female suspect, also white, was in her early 30s, with curly long brown hair, a blue blouse and beige pants.

While they showed no credentials or weapons, the pair convinced the victim they were police and proceeded to search him, taking his wallet and phone. The two then climbed into the victim's green 1999 Honda Accord (Utah plate Y95 4WD) saying they were going to search it, too.

Instead, they drove away.
