Logan police investigating a complaint of child abuse on Tuesday say they found a 6-year-old boy chained by his ankle to a bed frame.

The anonymous complaint said the child was chained up while his parent went to work, according to Logan Police Department Chief Gary Jensen.

Jensen said the boy had access to snacks and water and the chain was "just long enough" that the boy could reach the restroom.

Police did not immediately know if the abuse had occurred before.

Officials do not believe other children were living in the home, and the child's mother is not believed to have lived there either, Jensen said.

Jensen said the boy appeared in relatively good health but he was still being evaluated and in the custody of child welfare services.

Details about the father have not been released and Jensen didn't have details Tuesday about how long the child had been home alone before officers arrived.

Police went to the home around 11 a.m. Tuesday after receiving an anonymous tip about the abuse.

The Utah Division of Child and Family Services has taken custody of the boy and the father has been booked into the Cache County Jail.
