Cottonwood Heights police believe a medical crisis led to the death of a 75-year-old New York man whose body was found near the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Sgt. Corbett Ford said a 911 call came in mid-afternoon on Wednesday from the canyon's park-and-ride lot. Police and paramedics responded to find the victim, Gary Ryan, unresponsive and apparently in full cardiac arrest.

Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

While police await results of an autopsy for the official cause of death, Ford said investigators had found nothing to indicate foul play. "There's nothing so far that is suspicious," he said Thursday.

Ford said Ryan was on a road trip with his family at the time he died.
