Wildfire chases film crew in Utah County

Firefighters in Alpine contained a blaze in the mountains above the town on Monday afternoon, but not before it chased a crew filming a television show.

The fire began at about 1:45 p.m. in a "rugged area" about a mile above any buildings. The fire spread across 2 acres before firefighters were able to contain it, said Joe McRae of the Lone Peak Fire District.

"It was fortunate that it stayed in that one area and our crews were able to get to it quickly," said McRae, adding that it was not clear what had ignited the blaze.

No one was injured and no buildings were damaged, but some three dozen members of a film crew building sets for an upcoming television series on AMC called Galyntine were forced to evacuate the mountain.

Fifteen firefighters from the Lone Peak Fire District, Northern Utah County and the Forest Service battled the flames on the mountain.

McRae expects a dry summer to increase the risk of wildfires across the region. Local residents should trim the trees and brush around their homes to insulate themselves from fire danger, McRae said.
