A Nibley family lost its home to a fire at about 4 a.m. Tuesday, but managed to escape the flames without injury.

"It was pretty much a total loss," said Hyrum Fire Chief Kevin Maughan, who estimated the fire cost $135,000 in damages to the $165,000 house at 4430 S. Hollow Road.

The family of four, two adults and two children, awoke to the smell of smoke in the early morning hours. They escaped their burning house before firefighters arrived on the scene.

Maughan said the fire marshal was still investigating the blaze.
