The Sanpete County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday identified the victims of an apparent murder-suicide as a Fairview Heights mother and her adult son.

In a statement, Sheriff Brian Nielsen identified the dead as Marilee Poulson, 51, and her 27-year-old son Kyle Poulson.

Initial investigation indicates that Kyle Poulson first shot his mother to death on Monday, and then turned an unspecified firearm on himself.

"Our investigation as well as the State Medical Examiner's is ongoing. Any word on a motive would be speculative at this point," the statement read. "Our deepest heartfelt condolences go out to the family during this time."

However, 6th District Court records do show that on June 4, Kyle Poulson's wife filed for divorce and also obtained a temporary protective order against him.
