Orem • Two children remain hospitalized Wednesday with injuries suffered when a cannon fired by a Civil War re-enactment group at a weekend parade in Utah sparked a fiery explosion.

The conditions of the two transported to University Hospital's burn center in Salt Lake City after Saturday's accident were not immediately released.

A third injured child was earlier released from the hospital.

Two boys and a girl between the ages of 8 and 10 were taken to the burn center after the explosion at the start of the Summerfest Parade in Orem, about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City.

Police say sparks from the cannon landed on a large pouch containing additional charges for the weapon and the pouch then exploded.

The children were participating in the parade as part of the re-enactment group.
