New Susan Powell book subject of Tribune-sponsored discussion

It's been a year since West Valley City police formally closed their investigation into Susan Powell's disappearance after her husband, Josh, a person of interest in the case, triggered an explosion in his Washington state home that killed him and the couple's two young sons.

But a new book has revived interest in Powell, and The Salt Lake Tribune, through its Utah Lit book club, will play host to a panel discussion June 25 at 7 p.m. to talk about "If I Can't Have You" and the book's findings.

Jennifer Napier-Pearce will moderate the discussion, which will feature book co-author Rebecca Morris, reporter Nate Carlisle and Kiirsi Hellewell, Susan Powell's longtime friend.

It will take place at the Viridian Event Center, 8030 S. 1825 West, West Jordan. The discussion also will be live streamed at sltrib.com, and KCPW 88.3/105.3 FM will record and broadcast it June 27 at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The book Morris wrote with Gregg Olsen is the third and most thorough about Powell, who disappeared in 2009.

Reporter Ellen Fagg Weist interviewed Morris and Olsen about "If I Can't Have You," and Carlisle, who continues to cover aspects of the Powell case, reviewed the book.
