Motorcyclist seriously hurt in Utah County crash

A motorcyclist was seriously hurt Thursday while riding in Diamond Fork Canyon in Utah County.

The 35-year-old Salem man was riding with several others when he reportedly crashed and hit his chest on a log near Sawmill Hollow, about 14 miles east of U.S. Highway 6.

Some of his fellow riders were nurses, so when one of them called dispatchers about 11 a.m., he reported that the rider had suffered internal chest injuries and possibly broken ribs and a broken collar bone, according to a Utah County Sheriff's news release.

Since the one who called could give a clear description of the problem, the emergency responders had a better idea of what to expect when they arrived on scene, said sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

The man was stabilized and flown to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in serious condition.
