Prosecutors have charged the Orem man who allegedly kidnapped and raped an 11-year-old girl.

Jayson Quade Johnson, 26, was charged Friday in 4th District Court with child kidnapping, sodomy upon a child and aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies. If convicted, Johnson could face up to life in prison for each count.

Johnson allegedly assaulted the girl in February on her way to school. Johnson lives two blocks from Cherry Hill Elementary School, where the girl allegedly was abducted just outside the school's entrance before being assaulted behind a trash bin at a nearby church.

The assailant then fled the scene and the girl ran to school where she told a teacher what had happened. The teacher called 911.

Orem police Sgt. Matt Pedersen said earlier this month that DNA samples recovered from the girl, along with shoe prints discovered at the scene of the attack, ultimately led to Johnson's arrest on June 13.

Johnson, whose prior criminal history included burglary, theft and fraud offenses but not sexual crimes, was booked into the Utah County Jail. He is being held on a $150,000 cash-only bail, according to jail staff.

Johnson's initial court date has not yet been scheduled.
