Swimming: Franklin wins 200m; Phelps shares 100m title

Swimming • Michael Phelps shared the 100-meter butterfly title Friday night in the Santa Clara Grand Prix after finishing second behind Olympic champion Nathan Adrian in the 100 freestyle in Santa Clara, Calif.

Phelps, the 18-time Olympic champion swimming in his third meet since coming out from retirement, matched Tom Shields at 52.11 seconds in the butterfly.

Adrian won the freestyle in 48.17 seconds, and Phelps followed in 48.80.

"Having a double like that, I'm pleased," Phelps said. "I wanted to go under 49 and I wanted to go under 52. I got half of what I wanted. This is the first time I had two races in the same day since I've come back."

In the women's races, Missy Franklin won the 200-meter freestyle and finished third in the 200 backstroke.

Franklin took the 200 free in 1 minute, 56.96 seconds, faster than the Olympic star thought possible. Elizabeth Beisel won the 400 individual medley and the 200 back. Beisel finished in 2:09.11, and Franklin had a 2:09.86 after hitting her hand on the lane line.

"In the morning I hurt a little bit and didn't know what to expect in the afternoon," Franklin said. "It felt good and I was pretty surprised."

Franklin led the 200 free from the start, beating Cierra Runge by over a second. Simone Manuel, who beat Franklin in the 100 free Friday, was third in 1:59.01.

Hasek expected to be in Hall of Fame

Hockey • Dominik Hasek was still playing hockey a few years ago at age 46.

He put on his goalie pads for the final time Feb. 27, 2011, in Russia's KHL.

At the age of 49, "the Dominator" is expected to be part of the class of 2014 at the Hockey Hall of Fame, which will be announced Monday.

"For me it's a no-brainer," former Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said earlier this year.

Hasek, a six-time Vezina Trophy winner, won one Stanley Cup as a starter with the Detroit Red Wings in 2002, then split time with Chris Osgood and became the backup in the playoffs for the 2008 title. He came close to the Cup in 1999 with Buffalo, only to be beaten by the Dallas Stars on Brett Hull's overtime goal.

Hasek's best years came with the Sabres, when he had seven straight seasons with a save percentage of .930 or higher. He finished with 234 regular-season victories.

Portugal's Costa wins Tour de Suisse

Cycling • World road champion Rui Costa won his third straight Tour de Suisse on Sunday after clinching the ninth and final stage in Saas-Fee, Switzerland.

The 27-year-old Portuguese made his move with 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles) of the 156.7-kilometer mountainous stage to go. Costa finished 14 seconds ahead of Dutch cyclist Bauke Mollema and 24 seconds in front of Switzerland's Mathias Frank.

"What a wonderful day; stage and overall classification victory. I could not have asked for a better end," said Costa after winning his first event this season. "No one had ever won Tour de Suisse three times in a row. I'm proud I'm the first one to do it."
