The National Park Service on Monday was investigating the cause of a weekend houseboat fire that sent a boat management company employee to the hospital.

Las Vegas resident Nicole Rhodes, 29, suffered second-degree burns in the 1 p.m. Saturday fire, according to Denise Shultz, spokeswoman for the Glen Canyon National Recreation area. The blaze began in the houseboat's engine compartment as a crew worked on the vessel, docked in the Wahweep Marina.

"They had fueled the boats, then started the engine and a fire ensued," Shultz said Monday afternoon. "It's under investigation as to the cause."

Employees using fire extinguishers quickly doused the flames, but not before Rhodes was injured.
