The body of a 46-year-old man from Belguim was recovered from a Moab bike trail Tuesday.

Family members of Dirk De Muynk called the Grand County Sheriff's Office on Monday because he had failed to report back that he had finished riding the Amasa Back bike trail.

Deputies began searching the area at 6 p.m. on Monday. At about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Muynck was found deceased on a connecting route, called the Jackson Trail, about 11 miles down river from the Kane Creek Trail parking area.

"It appears that he had started to back track on that trail and was carrying his mountain bike at the time that he went down," a statement from the sheriff's office reads.

Officials said Muynck was carrying a backpack with water and food supplies.

The man's body has been taken to the medical examiner's office, according to officials. The cause of his death was unknown as of Tuesday.
